We are filled with immense gratitude due to your generous donations and unwavering support. To keep our valued donors informed, we believe it's crucial to share how your contributions are making a tangible difference in the lives of children in the Mombasa region who require treatment for scoliosis.

A crucial component of our approach is the use of scoliosis braces. These devices are essential in treating scoliosis effectively, without the need for painkillers, spinal injections, or surgery. At Coast General Referral and Teaching Hospital, each child receives a custom-fitted scoliosis brace to halt the progression of the spinal curve.

Yes, a scoliosis brace may resemble a stiff vest, extending from the arms to the hips with straps for secure placement, but its purpose is vital: to straighten the spine. Each brace is uniquely tailored to the child’s age, height, and the severity of the curve, crafted by an orthopedist. Our braces are adjustable, accommodating for childhood growth  without the need for complete replacement, thanks to our choice of a cost-effective brace supplier. This decision, spearheaded by Dr. Kennedy Mutinda, significantly reduces costs since patients do not need to periodically replace their brace.

Our goal with this brace is to prevent the curvature from getting worse, thereby avoiding future surgery. Early identification and treatment will not only prevent possible discomfort, but also relieve families of the financial burdens of more invasive treatments. The availability of spinal fusion surgeries for severe scoliosis is limited, often compelling patients to seek treatment abroad, such as in India—an option that many cannot afford.

As we soon celebrate the passing of our 1 year milestone at KSRI, we extend a heartfelt thanks for all the support and donations we have received. Your generosity has enabled children like Yolanda, Jeremiah, Vallery, and Blessing to receive their fitted spinal braces, allowing them to grow up joyful and active.
